Painting Toronto- Commerce Court East
Painting Toronto - Commerce Court E
The shapes and presence of the downtown towers have always fascinated me as a photographer, especially first visiting when first in Toronto then later working in them and in the underground city called the PATH, and knowing Downtown Toronto very well. As a photographer the angles were always challenging, sharp and rather aggressive even as I was intrigued by the magnificent architecture. In these days of covid they sit mostly empty as us Baystreeters remain Remote.
Painting the buildings presented me with the same challenge, and I always wanted to soften the angles and imagine more way out colour. (For that reason I ended my initial painting experiments several times). Hard angles of the towers don't give me the same feels, but it's fun to revisit the photos and memories.
Colour is what we need now with everything fluid as it is today. So with my collage creation that's just what I did, transforming these older and newer skyscrapers with watercolour wash and lights and artsy collage while I work towards impressionistic less detailed shapes and colour.
