Lover's Statue, The Meeting Place
Urban Tales - London - The Meeting Place, aka the French Kiss, aka the Lovers Statue is the name of a 9m tall bronze statue of an intimate pose by the world renowned sculptor Paul Day, modelled partly on the sculptor and his chic half-French wife and depicting the meeting of different cultures. Although it looks as if the figures are kissing, if you see it up close you'll see that they are actually just touching foreheads as they embrace. The Meeting Place/Lovers Statue is at London's St Pancras International train Station and stands below the famous St Pancras clock re-modelled by Dent, the original makers. I love this statue (and I love clocks!). I captured the photo on my way back from Paris on the Eurostar last year.Using a sketch and paint treatment for the photo to bring out the detail and then built the background with several textures, masking, and elements.
